Superlative senior, Yiran “Gigi” Wang won the Hopkins’ Loy Wilkinson award that recognizes academic excellence, leadership, and service in ChemBE. Gigi has a 4.0 record in UG courses, mentors younger peers in foundational coding courses, and led the team who constructed this year’s much fuller Senior Yearbook. She will be joining MIT’s PhD program in Chemical Engineering in the Fall.
Our amazing sophomore, Jarett Ren, won two awards: He won the Sarah K. Doshna Research Award for outstanding contributions to research and also the Elnora Streb Muly Award for an outstanding research proposal on Bayesian optimization algorithm development. Jarett was also part of the ChemBE Jeopardy team who took second place at the AIChE Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. Their team has now qualified for Nationals in October.
Luke Sati Oluoch won the Graduate Student award for contributions to the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. Luke served as the President of this Committee; he created social media accounts for the organization. He proposed and led numerous events that will foster a welcoming and inclusive community in ChemBE
